Buenas tardes! Good afternoon!

This morning the team had breakfast with Victor, Lety, and Ale. As we ate delicious bread, fried tortillas, and savory eggs with chorizo, we had the opportunity to hear first-hand from Victor about what he envisions the future of our project looks like. The team agrees that anything that is done should be what’s best for the community, and the team is in the process of thinking through ideas that we can present to both Wendell, our client, and Victor.
After breakfast, Victor drove us around Oaxaca. We had plans to visit the Trigo y Miel Community Center, which is about a 20-minute drive from our hotel. However, teacher protests along the highway prevented us from getting there. Instead, we returned to our hotel, took a walking tour of Oaxaca, and had lunch at a local restaurant (where a cockroach dropped in on our meal, we were for the most part unfazed by it). Even though the team was not able to see Trigo y Miel, we had the opportunity to see and hear the sights and sounds of the community around our hotel. We even bumped into a rally of teacher protestors on the way to lunch. It’s nice to see the heart of the people and what they care about.
I am quite glad that we did not plan a structured trip because we have a flexibility to respond to uncertainties. As Ale our translator says, Mexico might as well be called Flex-ico because of how flexible most people are. The events of the day so far have not only been a good lesson for us, but also a great chance for us to briefly experience the streets of Oaxaca. I know there’s still lots to see! Stay posted!
