June 7

Today was our last day of work at Trigo. Before we left our hotel, the team said goodbye to Wendell. Later in the day, we got news that he arrived at the airport and made his flight home. The team arrived later than we did the past few days due to excessive detours along the way. We began creating a map of the community by uploading the collected location points into ArcGIS. A very rough map was put together that showed the five “colonias” that are involved with Trigo y Miel. Victor also showed us how he operates the VWOS. We finally got to see it in action. After two years on the project team, I had never before seen the VWOS actually working. This was a really cool part of the trip for me.

We also had the privilege to hear Victor’s testimony and his faith journey. Personally, I was struck by how God spoke to him through his life experiences and how that eventually led him to work for Forward Edge and Trigo y Miel. Hearing Victor’s testimony, experiencing all of the ways God provided for us, and seeing the faith of Wendell, Professor Lockwood, Victor, Lety, and Ale lived out and boldly spoken about gave me strong encouragement. At the start of the week, I had mentioned that I thought this journey would be a way to seeing things differently. From being in the field, I can see that making decisions out here is not the same as making a decision from behind a desk.
